April is the lucky season Louisvillians have been waiting for year round, and it’s officially starting! Here are the top Louisville events happening this month, including the start of derby events, taco tastings, and jewelry workshops. This month is sure to keep you busy. Happy April!

April 8, 2021: Craft & Chat: Spring decorations

Have fun spring decorations at the Louisville Free Public Library’s Craft & Chat virtual event. Choose between a floral paper wreath or a bird’s nest paper wreath. Limited supply kits are available at the South Central Regional Library for roadside collection. When registering, participants will receive information about the class as well as the delivery kit. April 10, 2021: Tai Chi Garden: Spring

Take a Tai Chi class at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens while Daniel Lally and Amy Conner return with Garden Tai Chi. The lesson begins at 10 a.m. and aims to connect the participants with the changing times of spring through calming and flowing movements. This class is open to all skill levels, and the sessions are included in the price of admission (free for garden members, $ 9 for adults, and $ 5 for children). April 10, 2021: The Louisville Bee School

Experience a day of fun all about bees with HoneyBear Farms. Learn how to properly care for bees and harvest their honey from helpful teachers and hands-on demonstrations. April 10, 2021: Plaintive trumpets: ragtime and jazz

Enjoy a spectacular celebration with ragtime and blues music. The Louisville Orchestra is hosting a virtual concert entitled “Wailing Trumpets” on April 10th. Listen to long-time employees Bob Bernhardt and Byron Stripling captivating the audience with charming ragtime, blues and jazz standards. April 10th and 11th, 2021: Touring Pegasus Parade

The Pegasus Parade began in 1956 and is one of the largest parades in North America. While this year’s event may look different, the theme of the parade, “A Tribute to the Community,” features nearly 20 floats, including colorful inflatables and mascots. The parade runs for 60 miles and through more than 35 boroughs of Louisville. If you want to be a part of the magic, the parade encourages parishioners to decorate their porches, yards, cars, and houses. The official route has yet to be announced. April 12-18, 2021: Louisville Taco Week

Louisville Taco Week is back! Enjoy $ 2 tacos from Louisville’s favorite taco spots. Each participating restaurant will have their own unique tacos and passes will be provided to aid taco lovers on their way. The passes are stamped by the restaurant for every order of tacos (at least three tacos) purchased. April 17, 2021: Clay Jewelry Adult Workshop

Polymer clay jewelry is a new fashion trend that has taken Etsy by storm. Learn how to make your own this April. Join the educators at the KMAC museum and learn techniques for making polymer clay jewelry. Participants will be given accessories to make both earrings and a necklace. The workshop costs $ 40 for museum members and $ 50 for non-members. The price for the virtual workshop includes all tools and materials as well as 90 minutes of lessons. April 18, 2021: PNC Tour de Lou

The Kentucky Derby Festival is once again partnering with the Louisville Bicycle Club to put together the PNC Tour de Lou. This annual bike event offers participants the opportunity to ride three different routes depending on their level of experience. The drive takes you through every area of ​​Louisville – from downtown to the South End and the Highlands. Rides begin at 6:30 am and registration starts at $ 45. April 22-25, 2021: Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and MiniMarathon

It’s the moment runners have trained all winter. The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and MiniMarathon are back. The miniMarathon takes place on four days (April 22-25), while the regular marathon only takes place on April 24th. April 24, 2021: Opening night at Churchill Downs

Start Kentucky Derby week by attending the opening night at Churchill Downs on Saturday, April 24th at 5pm. Entertainment options include live performances, musicians, visual artists, and thoroughbred races. Evening wear is a “dress to impress,” so women are encouraged to wear party and cocktail dresses (and of course a hat!) And men to wear sharp trousers and a shirt (a tie is optional).
