Biography:

Scott Kerkmans, MBA, is a lecturer and director of the Beer Industry Program at the School of Hospitality at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. He coordinates the beer programs as well as professional relationships with the beer industry.

As one of the top five certified cicerons in the world, Kerkmans is an expert voice in the world of craft beer and an advocate of beer education in both professional and college education. He was a professional brewer for more than four years, most recently at Alaskan Brewing, selling beer for a major beer trader to over 80 local customers. Kerkmans has also been a nationally certified Beer Judge since 2005 and serves as a juror at the Great American Beer Festival each year.

He helped found and trained Draft Magazine before being hired by Starwood Hotels as Chief Beer Officer in 2008 and developed their online employee training program. Kerkmans also runs his own consulting firm called Beer Conscious Training and is the founder of Colorado Craft Beer Week. His research focus is on the sensory analysis of beer.

Kerkmans received his Master of Business Administration from Regis University in 2019 and a Bachelor of Entrepreneurial Studies from UNM Anderson School of Management in 2003.
