AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – It has been difficult for people of different backgrounds to find a vaccine appointment, but obstacles such as computer access and transportation make it especially difficult for our underserved community. The city of Aurora has hundreds of vaccine appointments open all weekend. The transit clinic is their latest effort to reach out to those who are struggling to gain access.
“We try to get into our color districts, like our Latino communities, our Koreans, Southeast Asian and Hindi. We want everyone to have an equal opportunity to get vaccinated, ”said Kendall Koca, special projects manager for the Aurora City Council.

The clinic Saturday and Sunday at the Aurora Municipal Center at 15151 E. Alameda Parkway in Aurora.
There are about 700 open vaccine appointments on Friday afternoon, according to Koca. Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be on sale this weekend, but Johnson & Johnson will not, despite the FDA saying they are safe to use again.
“We decided to just wait and see. We don’t want to be the process for it. We want to make sure we are using proven vaccines for our city for our residents, ”said Koca. Koca says it’s about trust, and many of those in this audience may already be vaccine reluctant.

Typically, these clinics are for people on their first dose. Koca says they won’t turn away people who struggled to set up their second one.
“Some people received a first dose elsewhere, but were not told where to get their second dose. We are very open to these second dosers, ”said Koca.
Appointments are recommended but are not required this weekend. People between the ages of 16 and 18 must come on Saturday as the Pfizer vaccine will not be given on Sunday
