DENVER (CBS4)– According to the Colorado Restaurant Association, nine out of ten restaurants are having trouble recruiting. Many companies are returning to normal operations, but they don’t have enough staff to deal with rushing customers. One Colorado company did what many hope to add dozens of employees in a matter of weeks.
Whole Sol Blend Bar opened a new location in Sloan’s Lake in October 2020, right at the start of the second COVID-19 wave in Colorado. In the last four weeks, 64 employees were hired at all five locations.

“We firmly believe that we should invest in our people first. They care about our customers, ”said Phil Dumontet, CEO of Whole Sol. “We are very confident that investments in our employees will last.”
Like many restaurants, Whole Sol initially struggled to recruit new employees. The company started with a 10% raise and incentives followed.
“We have expanded our benefits program. We offer a wellness grant of $ 50 per month to all employees. It can be used for anything related to your physical or mental health, like a gym membership, workout clothes, massages, or a chiropractor. Everything that has to do with your health, ”Dumontet.
Whole Sol also began offering full health benefits and a $ 1,000 bonus to its employees after six months of employment. These advantages attracted new recruits like Alyssa Romero.

“I am a runner. If I wanted new shoes or a massage, they paid $ 50. I was really fascinated when Phil offered me that, ”said Romero.
When Romero isn’t at Whole Sol, she’s a student-athlete at Metro State University. She’s a college kid in need of income and noticed a Whole Sol location being set near her training route.
She ran into an industry she had never worked in before.
“You always hear that companies only hire people with experience. I had this opportunity as I had no experience to deal with it, ”said Romero. “I wanted a new experience, especially because I’m so young.”
