At around 11:02 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of an accident on Interstate 25 near the Bijou Street exit. When the officers arrived on site, they found a deceased adult man in the middle of the street and another injured driver. Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR personnel also responded to the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries. Due to the nature of this incident, the CSPD Major Crash Team assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chrysler sedan was disabled in the lanes north of Interstate 25. An occupant of the vehicle left the sedan to assess the situation. A Chevrolet Equinox SUV heading north ended the Chrysler in the rear and also hit the occupant who was outside the vehicle. Speed and impairment are not considered factors in this case by the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox.
This is the seventh traffic death in Colorado Springs this year. At that time last year, there were five road deaths in Colorado Springs. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
