Denver’s second licensed cannabis lounge, Vape and Play, is now closed and has been put up for sale by its owners, according to the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses.

Vape and Play was closed on the last weekend in February, although there is no sign of the doors being closed on 1753 South Broadway, nor is there any notice on Vape and Play’s Facebook account, which has been inactive as of February 20th is about the lounge went unanswered on February 25; The phone message stated that Vape and Play would be reopened after the snow was cleared.
But Vape and Play founder Taylor Rosean confirms that Vape and Play is up for sale. He declined to comment.

The cannabis vaping lounge had only opened in late January but had been in the works since 2017 when Rosean and his family looked for funding and a location. The owners of Vape and Play, who planned to allow legal cannabis use and host a variety of music, food and entertainment events in the heart of the “Green Mile” of South Broadway, hoped it would be close to a pharmacy-laden neighborhood with above-average pedestrian traffic the place for success would arise.

During its short life, Vape and Play was only the second licensed cannabis consumption room in Denver after the Coffee Joint. The companies are licensed through the Denver Social Cannabis Use Program, which allows owners to apply for private cannabis use areas. However, socially licensed companies are prevented under state law from selling cannabis or allowing alcohol, making it difficult to generate customers and subsequent profits.

The news makes February a tough month for the city’s social pot sector. Supporters of Dean Ween’s ten planned cannabis-friendly concerts withdrew their application on February 5th, the day after they submitted it to Excise and Licenses.
