Fort Collins teen arrested underneath a bridge after murdering 58-year-old Todd Stout – CBS Denver

FORT COLLINS, Colorado (CBS4) – A 16-year-old Fort Collins resident has been arrested and charged with murder after a 58-year-old man was killed more than 6 weeks ago. Todd Stout was murdered under the bridge at the 4600 block on Mason Street on July 5. He lived there temporarily.

Stout died from what the Larimer County coroner calls “sharp injuries.”

Police said they did not assume the suspect knew the victim.

A few weeks after the crime, investigators looking for clues in the case released a video that showed an SUV pulling up to the bridge on the day of the murder, the suspect getting out and a short time later returning to the car and taking off.

Investigators said digital forensic evidence was critical to the arrest. Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said the detectives “never gave up trying to find answers for the victim’s family and our community”.

“While nothing can reverse this violent tragedy, we hope that the pursuit of justice brings some consolation,” Svoboda said in a statement.

The murder suspect was arrested on Tuesday and taken to a juvenile detention center. On Thursday, police announced the arrest and did not disclose the teen’s identity or booking photo as he is a teenager.

Stout had recently faced some challenges in his life and had moved from Missouri to northern Colorado before he was killed. Police said he was a father and a grandfather, and family members said he had a “dry sense of humor”.

Police said anyone who has information that may be of use to the authorities and has not yet spoken to police about the crime is asked to contact Detective Julia Chenoweth at 970-416-2645.
