Husband and spouse went to jail after capturing different drivers within the Denver space – CBS Denver

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Theodore Hrdlicka, 51, and Courtney Hrdlicka, 32, are jailed for shooting other drivers as the couple drove through Arapahoe and Adams counties in 2019.

Theodore Hrdlicka was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison in the Colorado Department of Corrections for what 17th District Attorney Brian Mason described as “appalling and unfathomable” in Adams County.

“These innocent victims were on a family camping trip when Mr. Hrdlicka inexplicably started shooting a young boy, his father and his grandfather,” Mason said. “I am grateful that we were able to achieve justice in this case.”

Courtney Hrdlicka was driving when the couple approached the vehicle of the three would-be campers from behind on Highway 36 near Interstate 25. The campers reported hearing gunshots from behind on the way to the Estes Park area.

As the Hrdlickas vehicle caught up with the camper’s, Theodore stuck his gun out of the passenger window and opened fire. Several shots hit the vehicle of the campers, including one “which was only a few centimeters away from the boy,” said the prosecutor in a press release. “It was covered in shards of metal from the gunfire.”

The Hrdlickas drove on. Two other vehicles were hit when theodore continued to fire shots from his handgun, according to prosecutors.

The couple were later arrested at an Adams County residence.

In September, Theodore Hrdlicka pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

He is still on trial in Arapahoe County. There, prosecutors from the 18th judiciary alleged that the Hrdlicka, who were driving a gray pickup truck, were involved in an incident involving the driver of an SUV. Witnesses told Littleton PD officials that the gray pickup truck drove away from the intersection of South Santa Fe Driver and West Belleview Avenue after its occupants fired a gun at the SUV.

No one was injured, but several vehicles were damaged, according to Littleton PD.

This incident occurred about an hour before that of the campers.

Theodore Hrdlicka faces 16 charges in the Littleton case, including a dozen charges of attempted murder. In March, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. A four-day test is scheduled to begin in late November.

Courtney Hrdlicka’s separate Adams and Arapahoe cases have been merged into a single case. She pleaded guilty to “accessory to a crime” in Adams County in July and a first-degree attack using a deadly weapon in Arapahoe County the following month. She was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison.
