DEPARTURE, Colo. (CBS4) – Almost a year after Suzanne Morphew was reported missing, her husband, Barry Morphew, faces murder charges. Suzanne disappeared after leaving home for a bike ride on Mother’s Day 2020.
According to online court records, Barry Morphew faces the following charges: deliberate murder, manipulation of evidence and attempt by an officer. Online records show that Barry Morphew was in custody.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office will be making “an important announcement in the investigation into Suzanne Morphew” at 3:00 pm. See it live on CBSN Denver.
Last fall, the sheriff’s office announced that more than a dozen investigators were working aggressively on the case every day.

In May 2020, the sheriff’s office, the FBI, and the CBI conducted a three-day search of a residential construction site east of Salida. The owner told CBS4’s Rick Sallinger that Suzanne’s husband, Barry, laid the dirt on the riverside property.
Family members say Suzanne’s husband, Barry Morphew, was out of town in Denver when she disappeared. On May 17, 2020, he posted a video advocating the safe return of his wife.
“Oh Suzanne, if there is anyone out there who can hear that, who has you, please, we will do everything we can to bring you back,” said Barry Morphew. “We love you. We miss you. The girls need you. No questions asked. As much as they want, I’ll do anything to get you back. Honey, I love you. I want you back so much.”
Suzanne’s body was not found.
