In-N-Out Burger opens a 3rd location within the Denver space in Thornton

You can go north soon for a double-double and Animal Fries. In-N-Out Burger, the iconic Irvine, California-based restaurant, is planning to open another subway location in Thornton.

An in-n-out location will be near the Denver Premium Outlets on East 136th Avenue off Interstate 25, according to the City of Thornton’s April Economic Development Report. The report says the restaurant will open sometime in 2021, though that does not determine the exact month.

“The site is still in the early stages of the development process,” said Carl Arena, In-N-Out vice president of real estate and development for In-N-Out, on Tuesday. “Once we start building a new site, it usually takes five to six months to build a restaurant and open it for business.

“However, there is still some preparatory work to be done before we can even start construction, so it would be premature to comment on a schedule or possible opening date,” said Arena.

That news comes a week after Whataburger announced its return to Colorado with Texas-based chain planning for a location in Colorado Springs.

Two In-N-Out locations have opened in the Denver area in the past few months. The Aurora In-N-Out opened in November 2020 with a 14 hour wait on the first day, and Lone Tree welcomed the In-N-Out in February 2021. A location in Colorado Springs also opened in November 2020.

As for other In-N-Out locations, a sign in Lakewood indicates a future location, and Arena said other cities are being considered, including Loveland.

“We hope to be able to open a restaurant in Loveland in the future,” said Arena. “At this point, we are in the application process for development. It is therefore too early to say when or whether we can open a restaurant there.

“We know Loveland and Thornton are wonderful communities and we are excited about the prospect of opening locations there,” said Arena.

The Denver Premium Outlets will also welcome a new restaurant in the mall. The Satire Brewing Company will open a second location there in addition to operating its Grant Circle location. This will include an outdoor beer garden.
