DENVER (CBS4)– Samantha Rodriguez was arrested in Denver after her son was found dead on a hiking trail near Las Vegas last month. The body was identified as 7-year-old Liam Husted on Monday.
Liam was last seen in the car with his mother, Samantha Moreno Rodriguez. Liam was reported missing in San Jose after a family member told police that they had not seen Liam or his mother in about 2 weeks. Authorities have been looking for Rodriguez since Liam’s body was identified.

Rodriguez left San Jose with her son on May 24th, traveling first to Southern California and then to Nevada. A hiker found the boy’s body on State Route 160 near Mountain Springs, west of Las Vegas, on May 28. Investigators believe that his body was recently placed there and that he was murdered.

Authorities were able to track the car that Rodriguez last saw in California on Interstate 70 near Grand Junction. Then on May 31, investigators followed her in a hotel room in the greater Denver area, where she checked in by herself.
Rodriguez was taken into custody Tuesday morning by the FBI-led Denver Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force.

Rodriguez is charged with murder in connection with the death of her son and is held in a prison in the Denver area pending extradition to Las Vegas.
