“E&P Reports” vodcast

In 2018, 10 former Denver Post employees founded The Colorado Sun in response to multiple layoffs following the acquisition of the Post by private equity firm Alden Global Capital.

Originally started with a combination of financial and technical support from Civil, a blockchain platform for news organizations, and a Kickstarter campaign, The Sun was able to add staff and build the infrastructure needed to run the news ecosystem in this important market disturb.

Today, The Colorado Sun is still journalist-owned and a growing audience that depends on member support and sponsorship to pay the bills.

In this ‘E&P REPORTS’ Mike Blinder, Editor of E&P Magazine, talks to Larry Ryckman Editor at The Sun, along with Josh Benson, Co-founder of Old Town Media, the consulting firm that helped The Sun build its business model and find the start-up funds it needed to get started.
