(CBS4) – Our recent heavy rains have paid off in terms of drought improvement for western Colorado. We have just seen drastic changes in the last week!
Here’s a look at our updated drought monitor:
Our exceptional drought, the worst level, has fallen 9% in the last week (!!) – from 15% to 6% of the state. That extreme drought decreased from 27% to 21%, which corresponds to a significant improvement of 6%. Heavy Level fell 3% while the moderate Drought decreased by 5%.
We are starting to see a big improvement for our drought-stricken west. However, we’re starting to see a little unusually dry crawl back to northeast Colorado.
Our recent rain was great for improving the drought, but it wasn’t great for flooding. So much moisture has a downside.
We will take a break from heavy rain for a few days and give ourselves time to recover from all the flooding.
