The grocery retailer Amazon Recent seems to be popping up in Centennial – The Denver Publish

An Amazon Fresh grocery store appears to be in the works in the southern part of the subway area.

Illinois-based Kensington Development Partners, the owner of the Quebec Village Retail Center in Centennial, says on its website that a “future grocery store” is one of the anchors of the complex. It refers to this store as a “national tenant”.

The grocery store would be part of the building at 8181 Quebec St., on the northwest corner of Quebec Street and County Line Road, according to a marketing brochure. The building previously housed Hobby Lobby and Stein Mart. Hobby Lobby moved and Stein Mart closed all of its stores after filing for bankruptcy last year.

Multiple sources identified Amazon Fresh as the grocer and told BusinessDen that the Centennial location is one of several local stores.

An Amazon spokeswoman said the company does not comment on “rumors and speculation”. Kensington and an agent who markets the property did not respond to separate requests for comment.

Amazon has been in the brick and mortar grocery store since 2017 when it bought the Whole Foods Market chain. However, last summer the company opened the first Amazon Fresh Store in California. According to Amazon’s website, there are now 12 locations in operation: eight in California and four in Illinois.

Amazon Fresh is also the name of Amazon’s grocery delivery service that operates in many cities including Denver.

Bloomberg reported in early March that at least 28 more stationary Amazon Fresh stores were in the works. The stores have “dash carts” equipped with cameras and sensors to identify items that customers drop in. Customers can then leave the store and have the purchase automatically booked to the credit card linked to their Amazon account, according to the company’s website.

Regardless, Amazon also has two brick and mortar Amazon Go grocery stores in the Seattle area that are much smaller than the Amazon Fresh stores.

A document presented to the City of Centennial requesting permission for minor demolition work on the site indicates that the grocery store would be approximately 43,000 square feet, on the side of the building that used to be the Hobby lobby. Amazon Fresh stores in other markets generally range from 30,000 to 45,000 square feet.

The document makes no mention of the grocery renter. However, listed architecture firm Norr has been working on other Amazon Fresh stores across the country, according to multiple media outlets. A permit for the demolition work was granted last month, according to the city files.

Kensington is familiar with Amazon’s grocery store. An Amazon Fresh Store is located in a company’s mall in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The only grocery store on the intersection, located on the border between Centennial, Highlands Ranch, and Lone Tree, is Konark Grocers, a small shop that specializes in Indian ingredients. A Safeway on the northeast corner of the intersection was converted into a Vasa gym a few years ago.
