Turtle Discovery: Researchers on the Denver Museum of Nature & Science uncover prehistoric species

DENVER (CBS4) – Researchers at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science helped discover a new species of prehistoric turtle. Dr. Tyler Lyson and Dr. David W. Krause are among the authors published in the Royal Society Open Science on Wednesday.

The researchers made the discovery based on an almost complete skeleton recovered from the Maevarano Formation in northwest Madagascar. The new species of pelomedusoid turtle is called Sahonachelys mailakavava.
